Details of my 40-201 - Joeztech - 11-24-2013

I see in the Knowledge Base that the Philco Model 40-201 was introduced in June 1939 and that 9,000 were made. The back of the chassis has Model 40-201, Code 122 stamped on the back of the chassis under the area where the two 42 output tubes are. To the left there are two antenna terminal boards. The smaller 2-terminal board is the inboard terminal and to the right and slightly above that appear these numbers: 1 25 6. I am guessing that this indicates the date of manufacture and a run number? That would mean it was manufactured Jan. 25, 1940 and is Run No. 6. Am I right?

There were two versions of the chassis, one with 11 tubes and one with 10. This one is the 10 tube chassis.

It actually came out January 1940.

I do not know about the numbers you refer to as I have no documentation indicating their meaning.

The chassis is the same as model 40-195 (10 tubes) and 40-200 (11 tubes). I used to own a 40-201, it was originally a code 122 like yours. The original chassis was not repairable so it ended up with a 40-200 chassis, electronically restored by Ed Locker. Great player, and I really liked its design. I let it go as I had too many consoles.

Ron;

Is there any label that is affixed to either the chassis or the cabinet that would indicate the run no.? Or, is the run number determined by spotting circuitry changes? The cabinet still has its labels, but they are not too legible any more.

No...the cabinet label only indicates the model and code numbers.
