Need help on model 38 battery set dial - Guest - 12-16-2007

Hello!

I recently bought a model 38 battery set. The poor guy is beaten down, but Im confident Ill be able to put him back in his glory days shape. It is my first time with a light beam pointer dial, and I would like some help to determine which parts of the dial mount are missing. The dial itself is obviously gone, and I cant see where to fix a repro dial. Im including a couple of photos below.

Also, I wasnt able to find a repro dial for this model in Mark Oppats site, or any other site. Is there a compatible dial from any other model? This 38 cabinet is identical to the 1935/36 model 60, can I use a model 60 dial on it?

Thank you all in advance for any help,
Norman

Hi Norman

Your radio is not only missing the dial scale, but also the metal mounting flange, which has a set screw for mounting to the tuning shaft. You will need both the scale AND the flange.

The Model 38 dial is unique to that Model. The Model 60 scale is the same size, but the frequency calibration of the second band is different, since the frequency coverage of Model 38 is somewhat different from Model 60.

If you can wait a few days, I'll try to get a photo of the dial scale and mounting flange from a Model 60. In the meantime, take a look at http://cgi.ebay.com/320194413227 , which is for a Model 60 chassis. It shows the dial scale and the metal flange.

Hello Ron

Thank you very much, It will be great to have a good reference photo to help the search with old parts suppliers. The auction photo already gives a good idea of what I need to look for.

Hi Norman

Here are two photos of my Model 60 chassis, showing the dial scale and the piece of metal it mounts on.
