Philco 47-1230 general questions - Guest - 02-12-2008
I'm considering having my 47-1230 console restored. I've noticed that there are 3 bands shown on the dial glass: FM, Shortwave, and Standard Broadcast. However on the band selector switch, there are 4 bands listed: P.B., B.C., S.W, and F.M. So, does this set actually receive 4 bands? What is "P.B"...? Police Band...?
Also, can I reasonably expect to pick up short wave broadcasts with the built-in antenna, or would some type of external antenna be required?
Thanks for your help!

P.B. = Pushbuttons
B.C. = Broadcast (AM)
S.W. = Short wave
F.M. = Frequency Modulation (FM)
Yes, the built-in antenna should be adequate for average short wave reception.
