Strange problem with 48-482 - Eric Adams - 05-29-2014

This is a weird one. I restored this 48-482 about a year ago and it has been playing daily in my shop. Lately I noticed that when tuning on AM, when I go under 780KHz, I get the scratchy noise (it actually cuts out) like a problem in the tuning cap. I get the same issue when tuning short wave. The weird part is that I get no problem on FM. I have done everything possible to clean it. I've examined every plate and don't see any rubbing.
Any ideas?

The highest likelihood is still rubbing plates in the cap gang. Or a dirty contact at the little clip(s) that maintain contact with the rotor shaft. The FM is probably a different section of plates and wouldn't be affected.

Thanks exray, I'll keep looking.
