Philco for 1937 (introduced January 1937)

Overview

A num­ber of Philco mod­els, most­ly on the low­er end of the price scale, received new cab­i­nets at mid-sea­son. Three new Auto­mat­ic Tun­ing Philco mod­els were also intro­duced; one of these (37-11X) lat­er received a dif­fer­ent cabinet.

Model 37-9X

A new nine-tube con­sole with Philco's Auto­mat­ic Tun­ing mech­a­nism. It oper­at­ed on 115 volts AC and had three tun­ing bands: 530-1720 kc, 2.3-7.4 mc & 7.35-22 mc.

Anoth­er nine-tube Philco with auto­mat­ic tun­ing, it had the same fre­quen­cy cov­er­age as the 38-9 above.

Model 37-33F

A new con­sole cab­i­net for the five-tube, bat­tery oper­at­ed Mod­el 37-33. This cab­i­net style was shared by sev­er­al oth­er Spring 1937 Philco models.

Model 37-34B

This mod­el received new Baby Grand and con­sole cab­i­nets at mid-sea­son. The Baby Grand cab­i­net was shared with sev­er­al oth­er Philco mod­els, and this cab­i­net style would con­tin­ue into the 1938 season.

Model 37-60B

As men­tioned above, this Baby Grand cab­i­net was also used in the 1938 sea­son on three dif­fer­ent mod­els. The 1937 mod­els can be dis­tin­guished from their 1938 coun­ter­parts by the small­er escutcheons used on the 1937 sets (except for the 37-89B).

Model 37-62T (Early version)

A new table mod­el Philco, which used five tubes and oper­at­ed on 115 volts AC. It received AM and the "police" band (2.3 to 2.5 mc). The front pan­el, as with most low­er priced Philcos, was photofin­ish; most ear­ly ver­sion 37-62T Mod­els have lost their photofin­ish by now. While some photofin­ish has flaked off this exam­ple, it still shows how the set should look.

Model 37-62T (Late version)

The lat­er ver­sion of Mod­el 37-62 was elec­tri­cal­ly iden­ti­cal to the ear­li­er ver­sion, but was housed in a cab­i­net with dif­fer­ent grille cutouts and a dif­fer­ent photofin­ish pat­tern on the front panel.

Model 37-62F

The 37-62 was also avail­able as a con­sole. This set con­tin­ued into the 1938 sea­son as Mod­el 38-62F.

Model 37-93B

Although this set looks iden­ti­cal to the ear­ly ver­sion of Mod­el 37-84B, this was an all-new, five tube Philco which oper­ates on 115 volts AC and receives the AM band. It did not have a regen­er­a­tive cir­cuit, which the 84 did.

Model 37-610B

Two new cab­i­nets for the five-tube Mod­el 37-610 became avail­able at mid-sea­son 1937. This is the Baby Grand ver­sion which, like its pre­de­ces­sor, had a photofin­ished front panel.

Model 37-610T

A new table mod­el cab­i­net for Mod­el 37-610; this one had dif­fer­ent grille cutouts. It was avail­able in wal­nut veneer only.

Model 37-630X

A very slight revi­sion of the ear­li­er 37-630X cab­i­net, main­ly along the top edges which makes this mod­el look even more like the 37-650X.

Model 37-630MX

Mod­el 37-640 hav­ing been dis­con­tin­ued, the mod­ern "MX" cab­i­net now housed a six-tube 37-630 chassis.

Model 37-641X

This new "X" mod­el cab­i­net for the AC/DC 37-641 was iden­ti­cal to the new mid-sea­son 37-630X.

Model 37-643X & 37-665X

Both of these mod­els received a new "X" mod­el cab­i­net for spring 1937. The 643 was a bat­tery-oper­at­ed receiv­er; the 665 ran on AC. Both could receive AM and three short­wave bands, although the 665 fea­tured an "ultra-short­wave" band, receiv­ing from 25 to 42 mc.
