Please tell me this is a super rare radio so I can sell it and not have to look for a speaker Icon_lol

I thought it had the built in speaker but it is the one that needs the external speaker. How hard is something like this going to be to find?

The chassis says Model 19 and the Philco website has a photo of this one that need the external speaker but is it just that one speaker that will work with it in the photo?

Here are some pics:
from what I seen at terry`s he`s the expert on chair sides Icon_thumbup

I answered your questions here, but I'll repeat the info for you:

Quote:I hate to say this, but...good luck finding the original speaker cabinet. I used to own a 19TX, which is a small tabletop radio that uses the same separate speaker cabinet as the 19LZX. It literally took me 20 years between the time I bought the 19TX tabletop unit until I found the proper speaker cabinet.

And that flat cable is designed to plug into a box in back of the separate speaker cabinet. It should have eight pins; only seven of which are used in the 19LZX.

You could convert it to a 19LZ by mounting an 8 inch speaker inside the chairside cabinet, utilizing one of the grille openings. It is still a rare and not often seen radio, either way.

I sort of wish I had kept my 19LZ, but I decided a few years ago that I had way too many radios...and it was one of the sets that did not make the cut, so to speak.

I think I would give strong consideration to converting your set to a 19LZ by adding an internal 8 inch speaker. It would not be difficult to cut a mounting board for the speaker, and mount it above and to the left of the chassis (while looking inside from underneath). I *think* this is where the speaker mounted in the 19LZ. There does not appear to be enough room to utilize any of the other three grille openings.
One came up recently but it was in CA for local pickup. Doesn't look like it got any bids so "may" still be available and maybe you could arrange to get it shipped??? http://www.ebay.com/itm/PHILCO-FLOOR-CON...1386973518?
thank you boys!
I have emailed the guy and asked if he could drop it at the UPS store for packing and shipping... If he still has it Icon_rolleyes

I dont think I would be able to add the speaker with my limited skills so hopefully I can get this one.
If not, I'll have to rethink keeping it or mailing it to you Ron. Whats 20 more years Icon_lol

Kirk
kirk I would just put speaker in it
other one one ebay dose not match style
but that's me Icon_think
Is that not the correct speaker for this model?

Kirk
it has them together on phorum pics but guess they used it for several radios ?
just saying to me it dose not match
The speaker Bob (klondike98 ) linked to is for a 14LZX, not a 19LZX. But it could be adapted to use with a 19LZX with a little work. You would have to replace the dual speaker setup with a single 10-1/2 inch speaker with 1140 ohm field and single-ended output transformer, and make a few changes to the control box in back of the speaker cabinet.

$75 is a very good price for that speaker cabinet, which is just as hard to find as a 19LZX/19TX speaker cabinet. It wouldn't be cheap to have it shipped from coast to coast, however.

But then, I would not trust that flat cable after 81 years - this cable's conductors has the infamous rubber insulation. Icon_eek You would have to replace the cable...and you won't find a flat cable with conductors large enough to handle the voltages and currents involved...so you would have to settle for a round cable, which won't look original but will do the job.

Or just add the 8 inch speaker inside the chairside cabinet and have a 19LZ.

Either way, a bit of work will be involved...but worth it, I think. Icon_smile
Icon_redface ..sorry I thought it was the right one Icon_redface
Yeah well he said $200+ so no thanks.
The speaker wire is actually in good condition and is cloth covered but who knows about the rubber inside.

either way it is going to be something I cant really do electronically yet so it will go on the back burner.

Thanks all.

Would this be the right one. I have more pictures if you are interested. It is in Kansas and I would say rough shape but looks complete.

Let me know

Bingo, that's it. Icon_smile

Skip, do you know if this speaker came from a 19LZX/19TX or a 91RX? The only difference is the wiring inside the control box, which can be changed to suit either model.
No I have no idea. I just remember seeing this in a friends garage and he did not have any radio that matched it.
