Wow MrFixr, gotta love having that big can taped into the heart of the tuner! What were they thinking? And I thought my 37-116 was hacked! Icon_crazy

Ah colonoscopy, now there is something to look forward to.

I can't respond to this; we are Family Friendly. Problem is that I gotta do it, as I had a positive result from Cologuard. BTW, the little box does not go to picnics or cut your lawn like the commercial shows!

The actual event is not so bad, but the preparation stinks. Icon_neutral Icon_rolleyes

Literally and figuratively. Went through the procedure once before about 15 years ago and the prep was not fun. What was worse, Blue Cross ("The Power of NO!") refused to pay for the sedation used, saying it was unnecessary. I guess that their utilization review staff had not gotten past the stage of pulling the wings off of flies or burning ants with magnifying glasses.

Mr Fix;
It looks like the Red Green of electrical tape got to your set, he's gone into a few I've had as well. Wrap a metal electrolytic can in electrical tape, and then place it in an open spot on top of the chassis (usually), with flying leads connected with a luke warm soldering iron. The funniest one I saw was where someone replaced the electrolytic in my FADA 1001 by stuffing it inside a tube box, and then wedged it in under the chassis. A FADA 1001 does not have a large, or a deep chassis to fit much of anything under it that isn't supposed to be there.

This thread reminds me, there was a field test conducted in the mid to late 1940s to establish whether the improved fidelity of FM was due to frequency modulation or because of it's band width, and immunity to noise because it was at a higher frequency, so they built some AM receivers designed to receive AM stations that broadcast in a wider bandwidth, at a higher frequency. I think it worked somewhat better then the medium wave AM broadcasts, but frequency modulation was definitely the deciding factor in terms of electrical noise. This is not to say that AM could not sound better, a lot of the poor sound quality is due to overmodulation, and narrower bandwidth then they they are actually allowed to use, I think that many stations are just poorly maintained, one I have listened too sounds downright tinny, like the audio is compressed,

MrFixr good luck on your upcoming colonoscopy. Just a heads up, a coworker of my wife’s used that Cologuard box and when there was a question as to the results, she decided to go for the standard colonoscopy. Her insurance told her since they already paid for the Cologuard, if she wanted to get a colonoscopy it would now be on her, they wouldn’t pay again!

Thanks for the heads up Ron.  I would think that would be arguable.  I am on a Medicare Advantage plan as my sole insurance.  Since the Cologard ™ was positive and their instructions state clearly that positive results must be backed up by by confirmatory tests (Colonoscopy) and since this disclaimer was likely required for Exact Sciences (the producer of Cologard) to receive FDA approval for the test.

I have to look up the EOB again, but Aetna Medicare PPO was billed about $580 for Cologard.  I don't know how much they actually paid Exact Sciences for the test.

I'll cross that bridge (or fall off it) when I get to it.

Although we have to be good stewards of healthcare resources, we also need to get some of these yahoos out of the utilization review departments of these companies.  Years ago when I had a colonoscopy, my insurance carrier denied the anesthesia bill (sedation).  They also refused to pay a bill for anesthesia the year before that for repair of an incarcerated (almost strangulated) hernia whose corrective surgery took 3 hours.

Anesthesia for abdominal surgery has to be strong enough to stop all movement of the mesentery but not stop your heart.  They claimed that the $1800 bill was unreasonable, that the anesthesiologist was out of network and that the level of anesthesia provided was not necessary.  I lost the appeal.  They paid the Anesthesiologist $500.00 The Anesthesiologist was kind enough to charge me the Medicaid rate and I had to pay only $400 instead of the remaining $1300.  Their idea of anesthesia was a shot of whiskey and bite on a bullet.

Mike (Morzh), what is the callsign and frequency of that AM station near you that had such nice fidelity?

462ron - 462ron - 08-21-2026

MrFixr, I don’t know what insurance that coworker of my wife’s had and I don’t think she had a positive result, just questionable whatever that means! I know of another coworker that used a prominent hospital (Geisinger) and they didn’t use anesthesia either, don’t know if was a question of insurance or not. I would think without anesthesia there would be a bigger chance of the patient moving thus possibly causing an internal injury! Thankfully my Advantage plan pays for anesthesia and my doctor always uses it.

MrFixr

It is 1160AM

AI says it went silent 2025 burt I think it is ot all true.

The AM radio station licensed to Lakewood Township, New Jersey, that famously used the "Good Time Oldies" branding is WJLK (1160 AM). Historically, the station operated under the call sign WOBM when it adopted the "Good Time Oldies" format and slogan in 2010. Over the years, the station went through several format updates—shifting to "Beach Radio" oldies, briefly trying country music, and changing its official call sign to WJLK in July 2023
