Reltive Humidity and temperature of specimen vs drying environment can play a part in this as well. Rattle bottles at just the right distance gently back an forth on planes starting with the front then top then sides may work out better. Using a gun, well, above my pay grade anymore. I use to shoot Poly, and live on it still, but not authentic at all.
