Arran,

I always thought there was an unexplained mistery about Amelia Earhart's disappearance. Dang!

Ron,

There is a device (I am sure there is a resistor and an LED inside and that's it) that is being advertised all over the Net, that you plug into any of your outlet and enjoy 905% reduction of your electric bill. I'm tempted to try it. I think I know too much about electricity and this works against me; I am sure this is a perfectly good device and will save that planet from overheating due to overuse of electricity. And the energy conservation law be darned.

Mike;
They also have a similar device that plugs into the scan tool port in your car that is supposed to get you better gas mileage, except that the LED blinks to make it look like it's doing something. Some of the older power "saving" devices had a capacitor inside, usually potted, that could actually work with a limited number of things, in theory, but they have all but given up the pretense of having anything but an outlet, and an LED. I think that the idea was there was some savings in phase correction, I'm guessing with inductive loads, but you would understand that more then I would, it would do bugger all with a resistive load.
Regards
Arran

The rule is simple: as long as you have ANY active load, you CANNOT save any energy. It will be dissipated as heat. Period.
Now what I heard CAN be done is, there is some way to use an inductance / transformer to plug into an outlet, induce a counter-phase current and make the meter rotate backwards. This only worked with old style electro-mechanical (2-windings) meter.
Today with new ones it should not work.

I guess the new bi-directional meters (for registering power back to the grid from, say, solar panels) register power and not the backwards current (negative power).

Hi TV Man,

Were there specs for the (original) amp? If so, what was the signal input voltage level either in volts or dB?

There are so many scams and snake oil pushers out there, the internet is full of them. Every thing from those mystery boxes sworn to save you $100 on your light bill to gizmos that make your full size truck go 300 miles on a quarter of a tank to concoctions for purging worms from your pancreas to cure your diabetes and mystery formulas for your prostrate! Of course you need to sit through a half hour BS video that you can’t fast forward through only to find there’s a magic cure someone is selling at the end of it. Just use common sense and buyer beware! I’ve often commented on some of these pills they are selling where it says in small print, not intended to cure any disease or not tested by the FDA. I would leave a comment like if your product is the answer you claim it to be then why don’t you submit it to the FDA for testing and get it approved to which their response to me is crickets!

I have been looking for the pill that cures Silver Mica Disease.......Paul

When I was a kid, I asked dad why can't one make a perpetual motion machines by powering an electric motor by the generator that the motor drives. Of course, I was too young to understand friction, heat, eddy currents, etc. Fast forward, it is amazing how many scam perpetual motion "free energy" motor generator sets are demonstrated on the internet.

For customers with a large amount of inductive loads, power factor correction may save some energy.

Ron, I'm sure that that letter went to File 13 (the circular file cabinet).

Mike, if you have to shield the speaker wires in lead, the added capacitance causes a loss in high frequency response, so the addition of Strontium 90 is merely a marketing ploy unless it boosts high frequency response in a Dolby-esque manner.

Oh heck, I just can't match your humor, I bow in humility to your greatness!

Well, now I know why my "X Ray " glasses that I ordered from "Richie Riches" comic book didn't work very well! I tired it at school and - well, only got smacked by a girl  Icon_e_biggrin

Oh, the best speaker wire I ever found was that black cloth covered 2 conductor wire ripped from an old farmhouse, without any mouse marks, carefully looped only 1 time exactly behind the speaker, cannot be over 10.25 ft long and MUST connect the white to the - and black to positive - no wait, it has to be inverted to get the 'correct' fazing  Icon_crazy

Idle minds producing greatness!

RE: Push Pull tube amp kit from China - TV MAN - 09-27-2026

Yeah, we need to start a new thread "Great Minds" so we can save the world and listen to beautiful music while we do it! ;-)

Ok, time to go to church...

I have to warn you. It does exists. But it is not a pill. It is a suppository.
