Hi Guys,
https://philcoradio.com/gallery2/1938c/#Model_3817F
I'm looking for a pic or two of an original cabinet for any of these models: 38-10F, '17F, '33F, '34F, '35F, or '60F. I know that there is a pic of the 38-10F in the gallery but I'm think that it been refinished and not sure if the toners are correct.
I've had this project for a longtime abt 8yrs. When I got it it was complete but looked like it was painted with brown paint with a broom. Was able to get most of the paint off of the photofinish and it was in great shape. That was 8yrs ago. It sat with a large plastic bag over it in the shop where I use to work. Last week I had the opportunity to pick it up. This week I've been working on it with the hopes of getting some finish on it by the end of next week. Weather is going to be OK for spraying.
Chassis is close to being done still needs an output transformer and cone. I put the 8" cones away for safe keeping and I'll be darned if I can find them!!! GRRRRR. Maybe tonight I'll be able to give the chassis a go and see if it needs more work. So far all the E, foil caps, and 1/2 doz resistors.

Think of the place where you hide things from yourself, those you do not want to toss but do not want to find ever again either.
It is there.

Couldn't find any reliable pictures of this set so I went with what I thought it looking like while I was removing all the old gunk that was on it. Best I could tell all the trim was dark with some highlights. Top and sides were medium walnut. Today it was ready for toning. Finished up gluing, striping, and sealing. Made the replacement grille bars but still need to tone and notch them to fit the cabinet.

Hi Terry
What did you use to strip the paint but didn't damage the photo finish?
Thanks,
Paul

To be honest I don't remember it was a number of yrs ago. But at the shop I had at my disposal lots cleaners and the like. I think I would have used GoJo and a medium or soft abrasive Scotch pad. It was delicate work not to go too far and damage photo finish. There was an area that needed repair about 1"x2". I must have done a good job as I couldn't find it until I stared it down for several minutes.

Well it's all back together for now till I find a dial for it. Cabinet is done and chassis is working both could use a couple of small tweaks. This is what it looked like 8 or so yrs ago when I got it.

It's a seldom seen set else I wouldn't have fixed it up. Want to be able to supply the gallery a pic or two so it would a real pic instead of the drawing. I've only seen one other on the net but it had a what looked to be a dealer added push button tuning assembly. There was some discussion if it was a franken set or not. The 38-17T do turn up every once in a while.

Looks good. How do you manage to refinish cabinets in cool weather?
Incidentally, I see your place has the very same radiant baseboard heat as our house has.

Thanks! Just watched the weather reports. Had a four hour window of opportunity perhaps the last till spring on Sunday. Report said 0% precipitation and partly cloudy. They lied. Just as I applied the last coat of clear it started to drizzle. Gather it up and brought it inside, no white spots so all was well a little smelly but ok.
House has gas fired hot water heat w/the original furness. It's 60yrs old and hoping to get a few more yrs out of it.
Mike
Thanks!
ps Later a little before Christmas I fixed a minor problem on a set and the owner graciously gifted me a new dial for it.
