Amazing 16B
#1

Finally I finished my tombstone. In this particular case I was only working on the electronics and their looks. Wanting to redo the cabinet I was questioned:"Are you out of your mind?"Well, you look and tell me.
All the same, it is the most amazing set I have owned so far. With only 25 straight wire, I have to keep the tuner dial at the low speed - so many stations are on the SW. The shadow meter window is very wide and more sensitive than the other meters I have come across. And, of course, the sound quality one would not expect from the table top. Definitely a keeper.

Excelent job.
It is as shiny as cat's you know what.
I hope it works half as well as it looks, quite enough.
Congrats, any 16 is a great radio, an this one is epecially good looking.

Thanks,
Just wanted to mention about an issue with the tuner gear.I had a problem with it even with the new tires (o-rings, so not to sound fancy). The main shaft front bearing (just a mere bracket) gets worn out and becomes an oval.I had to braze-in a new bushing to make it work as new. If someone interested, I can post picture in the "Electronic restoration" forum.

Someone on here had a similar problem with the dial drive on a Philco 90, but it was made worse by some Mickey Mouse repair. Not only was the bracket worn into an oval but the shaft had a groove worn into it. It's rather strange that they did not use a brass or bronze bush for the tuning knob shaft, I've seen this even with cheap sets employing slide rule dials.

On the 90 dial drive it is the wheel itself warned out in the back so much, that 2 brass halves, albeit spring loaded,
can not grab the wheel.I think, the only way, other than the wheel replacement, is building up the groove but it may be difficult due to the warpage.

Please do. I am sure many of us would find this information to be quite useful.

Wow that chassis looks brand new. Sure we're not in a time warp here? Nice nice.
