Just found this forum while doing research for my new winter project.
I stumbled upon this picture of my mother and older brother in 1941. They take 2nd base to the Philco 39-31 in the background. I was born 7 years later, but never remember that unit. But what I do remember is the 42-1008P that I grew up with. I have no idea why they got rid of the 39 and bought the 42. I remember my dad listening to the Salt Lake City Mormon Tabernacle Choir every Sunday morning (even though we lived in central California).
I kept the 42-1008P until 1980 when I sold it.
But now I'm looking to find one to restore. For sentimental reasons.
I think this forum will be of great value when I find what I'm looking for.
If any of you knows of a 42-1008p anywhere around Sacramento, CA., please let me know.

There are some antique radio clubs in California, in the south and up north. Check them out. They have sales meets too.

Good luck in you search and restoration
Those set have an undesirable feature,
there fill with decomposing rubber
wire. Most Philcos from'39-42 do.

Welcome, Pat! Great photo. I believe that's a 1940 model 40-180 Philco, however. The 1939 model 39-31 had an all white dial face. I have a model 40-180. They're a great sounding set.

I figured I would have to rewire the entire chassis anyway, as well as replace caps and resistors. Gives me something to do over the winter.

It will be fun playing with the "beam of light".

Neat photo. I have a 41-280...VERY similar. The Mormon Choir was heard on a nation-wide network for years. May still be. So a local station probably ran it where your parents lived.
