Model 38-5x with a shadow meter?
#1

I'm still a few weeks away from recieving my newly purchased 38-5x and was wondering from the pictures if it indeed has a shadow meter. Can anyone help with the diagnosis? I don't know what they came with or are supposed to have.

Yes, Model 38-5 DOES use a shadowmeter. If yours does not have one, then it should.

That's what I thought. The first photo was one from the Radio Attic. the second is a photo of the radio I bought. It would appear to me that it has one. I shall see when I get it.

Thanks for the info.

Anything else unique about this set? I've searched the phorum and really couldn't find anything specific to this model. I imagine that they are either not that common or just not that sought after?

Thanks

A little of both, John. Not highly sought after...but not super-common, either.

I've had one or two in the past, but I never got around to restoring either one. I have restored the similar 38-4 in the past, it was a pretty decent performer. (The only difference between the 38-4 and 38-5 is the "Cone-Centric" automatic tuning used in the 38-4, together with the lack of a shadow meter.)
