Hi all,
I am still in the process of restoring all the caps and resistors and such on my 16.Just love those tar pots
Anyway, have any of you rebuilt the tone control metal pot 78 /79 on schematic? I have looked at all the
changes and parts that were added or deleted and have had to use both schematics code 121 and 125/126
because some parts are on or not on either one. Is there anything I should be aware of ?

It is not a pot. If you mean a potentiometer. It is a bunch of potted caps usually. Very easy if it's like in other Philcos, like 18 or 66. Just keep the fish paper intact when extracting it.

Sorry,Morzh i meant a metal pot like a rectangle and realize it is connected to the tone control switch.
The schematic is a little confusing because of the changes that were made.

I feel a bit lazy to start handling a 20+ lbs chassis stashed in a box....do you have a pic?
Those in Philco usually come either like in 90, where it is a backelite rounded box with a potted compartment for caps or metal contraption with a potted box lined with fish paper. In any case you remove potting (easy, especially with fish paper), change caps and run wires back to the tabs for sliding contact.

It is a metal box lined with fish paper filled with tar,with a red wire and a black wire coming out of the top area.
At the side of the box next to the chassis there is a solid connection to the first contact point and another solid
connection at the last contact point. You can see it in the pictures.

Yes exact same I rebuilt twice. Very easy. Cut the wires, remove from chassis, unsolder thin wires from tabs, remove the potted part with fish paper (if resists heat gently the metal can) , reserve the fish paper, restuff, rewire, run thin wires to the tabs, solder, run common (twisted together caps' leads) to the place where they get soldered to the can, solder, form caps so they can be potted, make sure everything is snug, no shorts, the thin wires are neatly tucked, then pot. Done. Took me under an hour at a leasurely pace.
