Philco consul model 144X
#1

I just bought this unit a week ago and I couldn't pass it up because it was in such nice shape. The cabinet is in unrestored condition and was very well taken care of. However work has been done to this unit and at some time in the distant past. Probably in the 50s. The type 75 tube was adapted to fit a 6SQ7 tube and the electrolytics have been worked on but look like a mess. I've powered up the unit because I was told it played but it doesn't, just a hum. I'm fairly sure this is a 144X because the chassis says its a type 144 and theres a tag inside the cabinet with an X on it. When I start to dig into this thing what am I to expect? I also need to find a good copy of a schematic. The one online is a little unclear unless someone knows of a decent clear copy.

Hi. You might want to order one from Chuck Schwark.

With the amount of changes you describe it would best to have good clear schematics to work on it. Good luck.
