Speaker Difference H13 vs H16 ?
#1

In need of H13, but see a H16 available
Anyone know specs on these 2 speakers?

Specifically, the file Philco Speakers - speakers.zip.

Now:

Both are 10-1/2 inch speakers.

H13 - 1125 ohm field @ 65 mA; output transformer primary 5,900 ohms push-pull to match 1.25 ohm voice coil

H16 - 660 ohm field @ 80 mA; output transformer primary 7,200 ohm single-ended to match 1.25 ohm voice coil

If you were to use an H16, you would need to add resistance in series with the field or else your B+ would run too high. Plus you would have to replace the output transformer with a suitable push-pull unit.

Thanks Ron

Looking for the H13, but may have to bite on the H16

What do you think chances of finding the H13 are ?

Bob, it would seem that you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding an H-13 as it was used in many Philco models such as:

16B, 18D, 18H, 18L, 18X, 116B (early), 118D, 118H, 118X, 118MX, 503L, 507L

and in the following - consoles only: 650, 655, 660, 665

However...as popular as model 16 (and 116B) sets are, that may limit your ability to find a good one.

Good luck! Icon_thumbup

A couple questions about this.  I was talking to Bob (joybird) about a speaker I have, that I acquired in what I believe is a 16RX cabinet.

It's a 10-1/2" speaker that looks very much like the speaker in my 16B (version 3), except the cover over the contacts is set up for a flat cable instead of a regular 4-wire harness.  It's stamped H13 on the back of the field coil.  The paper on the field coil is stamped 1126.  The basket of the speaker is stamped UU8U.  Using my VOM, I measure 1102 Ω on the field coil, 289 Ω on the primary of the audio transformer, and less than 0.5 Ω across the voice coil and audio xfmr secondary.

I would think from the UU8U stamp that this is a U-8 speaker, but according to the list a 16RX should have a U-2.  What do I have here?

That is an H-13. The "U" speakers were a completely different design.

Thanks Steve. So why does this style cabinet have an H13 speaker?

According to Ron's list, it should be a U2, right?
