Bakelite Philco Block resistor wattage?
#1

I'm working on this Philco 19 cathedral, and I have a question about C5 which is a Bakelight block part number 4989W according to the parts list on the Philco changes sheet: http://www.philcoradio.com/phorum/attach...?aid=11508

The block in my radio is a 4989AG, but the difference between the two parts seems to be a 300 ohm resistor rather than a 200 ohm resistor. The resistor itself is some looped coated wire in a small paper package. What would be the proper wattage for a replacement? That part is between the cathode of the output tube and the cathode of the IF tube and ground.

A 1/2 watt equivalent will do just fine.....

Charlie, I would just reinstall the wire loop, these almost never go bad. You could not put a better resistor in the block. If you want to lower the resistance to 200 ohms, remove about one third of the length. Personally, I would leave it as is.

If you are speaking of #5, then it dissipates very little.
If your current is say 6mA (I doubt it is) then it is 7mW. Nothing really.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
