Model 60 Tuning Condenser Shaft Slipping
#16

Texasrocker Wrote:From Joes photos, the orig shaft looks pretty worn! Look closely.

Looks very 'dry' so there could have been excessive wear but its likely recoverable. IIRC there's another little bearing and a spring down inside the shaft which probably won't be seen until its all cleaned out and they can be freed up. The spring would normally compensate for any normal wear. If that dry look is oxidation you might want to rub it off with something very fine like an emery cloth or scotchbrite pad.

Speaking of not losing the little bearings (those devils are always trying to escape!) keep that in mind as you're hosing out the center of the main shaft. One good shot of aerosol and that center bearing may come flying out from the pressure! Sometimes it takes a tiny little hook made of wire to fish out the spring if it is embedded solidly.

WD40 will usually soften up the old hardened grease but it takes a while with several repeat cleanings. Carb cleaner works good too after the bulk of the crud is flushed out. You want it good and dry and clean before applying your fresh grease because any remaining WD40 may tend to water down your new grease. Q-tips come in handy here. GL!

Guys - thank you for all of the help with this issue. After following your advice and quite a bit of work -- and a flurry of 4-letter words here and there -- I was able to get everything apart, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. The tuner is working smooth as silk now!! Thank you.

IF can wire size and Rubber mounts?
Renovated Radios do carry what you need. As for the voltage, a wire should be at least 300V-rated.morzh — 11:13 PM
