Philco 37-116 IF Expander Can Removal
#1

Good morning, I'm getting ready to refinish my Philco 37-116 cabinet shortly as it is now starting to get cooler outside but I first need to replace the 2 IF connections coming out of the expander cans on the chassis but I'm not sure how to get the cans off as they appear to be riveted to the expander assembly. I saw that Ron was able to remove them off the expander unit on his 38-690 restoration--I studied his pictures of the expander assembly but I'm not sure how he detached the cans.  Thanks,  Ken

Hopefully these pictures will help.

You remove the nuts and lockwashers on top, then you have to pry the bottoms of the cans away from the tabs locking the cans in place at the bottom. There are two tabs per coil, on opposing sides (you only see one tab in the photo above).

Of course the 37-116 only has two IF transformers as part of its IF expander assembly instead of three in the 37/38-690, but the assembly should otherwise be the same.

Thanks Ron for the information on removing the IF cans--I'll see if I can remove the cans off the expander unit later this afternoon. After I get the chassis done then I'll get started with stripping and refinishing the cabinet.   Ken
