Grundig 3068 Hi-Fi Zauberklang
#1

I found this today for cheap.  Everything works, except the EM34 tuning eye tube.  It's been playing in a guy's garage for years. He purchased it in Germany in the 1950's.

I'm always amazed when I see these radios....they are huge.  It sounds great, and the tuner is very sensitive. The cabinet is very clean, as is the dial. There just a small bit of laminate separation at the bottom of one side, that I will be gluing down.

My first old German radio.

A bunch of odd looking jacks in the back. Can any of these be used to plug in an MP3 player or Bluetooth receiver?  what sort of plugs would it take?

Is there a manual in ENGLISH for these?

Thanks

Deutchse Intstiut Normung forgive my spelling, usually these have a DIN type jack, my Grundig does, try something like this...............

More info..............

My pal Ross who is a Euro Radio Whiz explained to me once that the reason German Engineers get so much performance from minimal tube counts is that radios in Germany were taxed on the amount of tubes they had, so if you keep tube count down you could sell for less.

My Grundig plays well but the laminate is cracking and pulling off, another one sounds better than looks.

Good luck.

I don't see a 5 pin DIN socket. Here is whats back there:

Maybe you can translate the other connector text.

If no more answers here you can pm me and I can see if I can put you in touch with someone who would know.

Hmm - I don't think those are all DIN connectinons. The plug has an outer shell - and I don't see a circular groove around the sockets labeled "HiFi Strahler" and "Fern Dirigent"

Using these terms, I found this thread on the UK vintage site:

https://vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=104996

It seems the HiFi socket is an output, and the other was for a remote control system.

The "Tonbandergerat" connection is a DIN type for a tape recorder, and is the most likely possibility to connect a music source. Aufname and Weidergabe translate as recording and playback, suggesting that the radio could be used as a source, and high quality means of listening to recordings.

I don't hold with furniture that talks.

The tuner on this radio is quite good. It is picking up stations quite clearly that my other radios struggle with.
