50T Canadian-made
#1

At least I know it's a 50T, Canadian, and its model year is 1942.  More than that isn't coming easily, but it's coming.

(I included an inline photo here but the Phorum software interpreted it as a whopping number of characters and rejected my 851-character post as too long...so I removed the photo.  You'll have to just imagine a brown-coloured version of the 50T image linked below.)

It's exactly like the http://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/50t.jpg  photo, and the similarity to Desault's '41 model 49T as discussed in his "Indentification help needed, 1941 ish, 5 tubes" thread a few months back is consistent with 1941's knobs on the sides and 1942's knobs on the bottom that I've observed on many models.

In my "introduce Yourself" thread Ron encouraged me with details about the 50T, but it also discouraged me to learn that there was no USA equivalent. Still, it doesn't make economic sense for every radio model to have a unique chassis, so if If I can view the schematics of all the 1941-1942 USA Philcos maybe I'll find one or more with the same 6 tube list as mine. Where would I look for those schematics?

I was down in the basement in my dad's

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

I have all the Canadian Philco schematics, from 1928 up to 1947, then only a hit/miss till the late 50's. I can send you a copy, if you need one.

Philco Products LTD, later to be become Philco Corporation of Canada Ltd, did produce their own unique sets once in a while, especially in the 1939-42 period. There were various reasons, among them: A) product rationalization, due to the smaller population of Canada B) different electrical codes here C) different sales climate in Canada

I've found a schematic for my 50T, thanks to your help. Along the way I found one the '42 "Tropic" model, nicely annotated with voltage readings here and there. It had the same tubes except instead of a single 41 output tube it had a matched pair, otherwise it's almost identical to the proper schematic I now have. Those voltage readings might still be valid for my model, except at the output stage. I'm feeling a lot more secure about this project now that I have a schematic. Thanks again. .....c
