Volume issues model 90
#1

Great to be back working on my Model 90. After doing a complete recap on my radio as well as replacing some missing pieces I have a radio that has great reception but no volume control. By this I mean the volume is constant at a moderatly low level no matter which way the volume control is turned. The only thing that changes Is the tone of the radio from a full sound to a rather tinny one. My first guess would be a dirty or worn out volume control but I don't see how to get inside it. Any suggestions ? By the way thanks again to Ron for the great under chassis view of his model 90.. This radio had been used for parts with many wires missing. Without the photo things would have been much tougher. Thanks again, Gary

Well, you could just splice in a known good one to the three contacts and see if you restore functionality. If you do, the old one is open at some point. Or when the set is off, you could use an ohm-meter to see if the wiper (center tab) has continuity and goes up and down in resistance as you turn the knob. Check in terms of both the outer tabs, as the break could be anywhere. If it is not that, then check back with us.

Thanks for the tip on testing the volume control. The readings from the ohm meter indicated that it was working properly so I reinspected under the chassis and found the leads from two resistors touching at the bakelite cap where one of the wires fron the volume control attaches. After seperating these the set plays great with lots of volume. Thanks for your help. Gary

IF can wire size and Rubber mounts?
Renovated Radios do carry what you need. As for the voltage, a wire should be at least 300V-rated.morzh — 11:13 PM
