Philco 46-1203 Chassis Voltage
#1

Is it normal to have 120VAC on the chassis referencing earth ground if using an un-polarized electrical plug?  I want to make sure there isn't a short somewhere.

When the white neutral plug is inserted into the small (hot) socket,  I measure 120VAC between earth ground and the auto/man switch on the record player.

Thanks!

Joel,

You have not listed the type of radio.

Yes it might be normal, if and only IF:

- the radio is fully recapped.
- a cap is installed as a noise filter between chassis and neutral and there us NO short between the two.
- Or if you have true hot chassis radio.

These radios are usually in fully insulated cabinets with covers and knobs without set screws.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Thanks for the reply morzh.  It has been re-capped and it is working.  The radio is a 1946 Philco model 46-1203.  I have attached a schematic if that helps.
