Knob Oddity
#1

I recently came across some apparently NOS large Philco rosette style knobs. Some were still in original unmarked packaging. What was unusual is that all of them had a 1/8” hole drilled right through the center. Surely a factory job, as each one is absolutely perfect. Any explanation for this strange phenomenon?

Hi Mike,
I believe it's for the early 16 models with the push/pull tuning knob. Later ones used the large hex knob with a set screw. There were a few other sets that used the two speed rubber wheel drive. https://philcoradio.com/gallery2/images/...age_01.jpg

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Yeah I immediately thought the same. Especially if the hole is couterbored, it it is a 16 knob.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
