46-480 Rear Cabinet Cover
#1

Hello everyone.  I've recently acquired a Phlico 46-480 and am in the process of restoring both the electronics and the cabinet.  The cabinet is in pretty good shape but when I got the set it was missing any type of rear cover.  I've looked pretty closely at the cabinet's rear and haven't seen any screw holes or other mounting hardware which would secure a back cover.  This begs the question:  Did this radio originally come with any kind of a back cover?  If not I'm OK with leaving it open but if it did have a cover I'd like to fabricate a new one.  Any pics or information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I have seen some 1946/47 Philco consoles with a cardboard cover over the speaker compartment only. But the radio portion had no back.

Keep in mind most prewar radios, and some postwar models as well, never had backs. It was understood that parents would teach Junior and Sally to stay the heck away from the back of the radio. Common sense, you know. That thing that has all but disappeared today. Icon_rolleyes
