625B Chassis - Deplorable Repairs
#1

Hello everyone! This is my first post, but I know I came to the right place.
I bought a 625B from a thrift store for $50. It was complete but the enclosure was in very bad shape, the chassis was in good condition though. However, with that said, when I began the recapping, I saw a number of wire/solder furrballs connecting various replacement caps together. Also I have both Philco and Riders schematics, but it appears the original radio wiring in some areas does not match either of the schematics (the Riders and Sams schematics are identical). My question is: Does anyone have a recapped 625B they would be willing to take some pix of the chassis underside and share them with me? So I can verify that I'm not going to let the essential smoke out of anything.
Thanks in advance!

On your 625 chassis if you look at the chassis layout here :https://philcoradio.com/library/download/service%20info/wiring%20diagrams/vol1/split/Part79-Philco%20Wiring%20Diagrams%20Vol.%201.pdf  it will give you a good idea what is suppose to be there. The two blue and the one brown e caps have been added along with several foil/paper caps over on the left side. To put things right under the chassis the bakelite block and the electrolytic can caps should be rebuilt. The B indicates what cabinet the 625 chassis was fitted in. Yours was a table top set.

Radioroslyn,
Thank you, for the direction. Yeah, the repairs over the years were hasty, but time is money to a repair shop.
I've recapped the bakelites and the cans I got from different salvage set, so, I'm dropping them one at a time as I go from block to block. I've replaced most the caps and a few resistors so far. I took a series of pictures as I took it apart, but some of the wiring was cut free from their original locations and furrballed here and there with the repair caps. there are a couple more hidden repair caps under repair electrolytics, and those connections are wonky too. We've all seen schematics that are in error, but if you vouch for this schematic, I'll follow it.
Thanks, RF
