Phorum How-To #13: Other Options
#1

Go to your User CP, and then click the Edit Options link.

In this lesson, we are going to examine what you can do with the Other Options box (lower right):

The first thing we want to look at is the checkbox next to the text "Show friendly redirect pages."

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_002.jpg]

Have you noticed that when you submit a post, you see a little screen like this:

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...3_003a.jpg]

Uncheck the box next to "Show friendly redirect pages," and you will no longer see screens like this - instead, once you compose and submit a post, you will be taken directly to the thread.

Next is "MyCode Formatting Options."

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_004.jpg]

With the checkbox checked next to "Show the MyCode formatting options on the posting pages," when you write a post you are able to pick smilies, and you have formatting options available to you at the top of the box where you type in your post, as seen below:

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_005.jpg]

However, if you uncheck the box next to Show the MyCode formatting options on the posting pages, when you write a post the page will look like this:

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_006.jpg]

No smilies. No formatting options. Only an empty text box for you to enter your text.

You will notice another option which is not checked by default - Put the editor in source mode by default.

When tested, no difference was noted between this and Show the MyCode formatting options on the posting pages. Therefore, it is recommend that you leave the Put the editor in source mode by default box unchecked.

Now, moving on down the list...we come to "Board Style".

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_008.jpg]

The default board style, or theme, in the Phorum is Phorum BootBB. If you select the Use Default option, you will be using the Phorum BootBB theme. Note that Use Default is not the same as Default. Yes, this seems confusing. But please read on for clarity. There are several other choices as well. It is not recommended that you use any of these other choices, for reasons which shall be explained below.

For a plain white theme that is otherwise reminiscent of how the Phorum looked many years ago, then choose Default. It will look like the image below

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_010.jpg]

WARNING: "Default" is not mobile-friendly!

For a real "blast from the past" which shows how the Phorum looked prior to becoming mobile-friendly, then choose Phorum Red. It will look like this:

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_011.jpg]

WARNING: "Phorum Red" is not mobile-friendly!

For the first mobile-friendly theme used by the Phorum, choose Phorum Responsive. Here is how it looks:

WARNING: "Phorum Responsive" is outdated and is known to have issues which causes certain Phorum features to not work correctly. Use at your own risk.

A final theme option is BootBB. Here is a sample:

[Image: https://philcoradio.com/images/phorum/Ph...13_013.jpg]

WARNING: "BootBB" does not identify itself as the Philco Phorum on any page - instead, it identifies itself only as "BootBB". It is not recommended for regular use. Use at your own risk.

After making changes, remember to click or tap the Update Options button when you are finished, in order to apply the changes you have made.

BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE!

See Phorum How-To #12: Use Lite (Archive) Mode for more information.
