Transitone PT-6
#1

Bought at a yard sale for $15. Checked it out, pluged it in, in hums and the dial light works, but no reception. There is no back panel. Is there a resource I can go to in order to see what I should do as far as checking it out? The steps to take, etc. I'd really like to get it operational.

Dont plug it back in until you atleast replace the filter caps they are what causes the humming and after you repace them you could try it although all the capacitors should be replaced. There are many posts here describing the restoration steps.

Welcome to the Phorum.

Your 1941 Philco Transitone set is a nice table model with classic looks.
More comprehensive service info can be obtained thru my website as well.
My archive of all original Philco bulletins has info Riders, many times left out.

Many good guys here who can help you with your set.

Roger that. Appreciate the info and schematic. I'm going to get this old girl working! It amazes me that the announcement about the attack on Pearl Harbor, and so many other life-changing news items, actually came out of this radio! What a piece of history!

I also have a PT-6 but it needs a speaker. Does anyone know what size oval speaker this took and does anyone have one available? Thanks!
