Picked up a 80 Jr today
#1

I just picked up a Philco 80Jr today at lunch. Doesn't look to bad and the price was right. It has what appears to be the original globe 80 and globe 42 tubes in it. If those two tubes are good there worth about 3 times what i paid for the radio. Also it has one of the copper merschon(sp) electrolytic caps.

Ill post pics later..

Looks like a nice one for $25.00. You are right the tubes are worth more than you paid for it!!

Great little set! Just have to replace all the caps, resistors, and rewind the ant and osc coils. Then you'll have a little dandy of a Philco!!!

ps There are some exceptions. The power resistor on the CT of the HV winding on the power transformer. Haven't had any bad micas on these sets yet.

Have to say it is a cute little set. I like the tiny speaker.
Started repairing the cabinet, and will start checking out the chassis hopefully I wont have to rewind the coils.

And the original Globe 80, and 42 tubes tested good! May stick those in my 71B and just use all ST tubes in this 80.
