I am in the process of restoring a 47-1230 console for my friend and neighbor....this was her grandfathers radio. The speaker wires were broken loose from the electrodynamic speaker and I can not find any diagram etc in the schematics indicating the proper reattachment of the wires...I might be able to figure this out but want to make sure. Wires coming from the chassis are green, white, red and orange and there are five holes in the plug and four pins on the speaker. The five holes on the plug are all numbered 1-5 so if someone can tell me how to mate color to number I think that I will be set. the rest of the elctronic work has been completed....thanks for any help....victor

Do you have the schematic of this set? If so, you will have no choice but to trace each wire from its source inside the radio to find where each wire connects on the speaker.
Only four pins are used. About all I can tell you is that the two closest together go to the field coil, and the two farthest apart go to the speaker voice coil.
Unless someone who owns a 1946 or 1947 Philco console chimes in...you have no alternative but to manually trace the leads.
ok.......someone sent me a picture of the connection and when connected everything fired up nicely.......Now my next problem.......when I get to the high end of the dial the signal breaks up and begins to chatter....I have not doen an allignment as yet and am thing that an allignment will solve this problem....I seem to remember someone who posted a similar problem but can't find it.....anyone with some info on this would be appreciated.......I did check the rectifier tube and it is strong......thanks
thank you yan for taking the time to send this picture..it was all I needed to hook things up properly without having to dig through the chasis and probably make a mistake. I was incorrect in my previos post regarding alignment...I have now been able to align the units IF to 455kc for the AM Band, however I still can not seem to bring the radio from a shift towards the higher frequencies leaving the low end 550kc and up with an annoying chatter...is this normal....Yan, you have mentioned that your model 47-1230 seems to do the same thing after recapping. Everything seems to check out including tubes etc..not sure where to turn next....Nice to be a part of this forum...my first philco.
Well, welcome to the phorums! The crowd here is very nice and helpful, and well knowledgeable in all things Philco.
There are even a few 47-1230 owners! (or the siblings 47-1227 and similar radios)
My radio is not currently 100% recapped; I still have a few capacitors to change. The bulkiness of the radio makes it rather hard to work on. I'd like to have a spare set of speaker+antenna to work away from the cabinet...
but you are right, my stations are shifted. For instance, I catch AM730 near 800.
Oddly enough, the FM reception is very crisp even if I haven't worked a lot on its capacitors, and its alignment is better than the AM one.
Maybe it is common in those radios? Others would have to chime in to let us know...
OK...now that everything is hooked up correctly and the AM is alligned, I need to recone my speaker as it is badly torn....(I pieced it together with speaker glue enough to be able to use it for the allignment). A member from my club informs me that the specs on this speaker part no. 36-1595 should read 5.1 ohms for the voice coil and 650 ohms for the field coil....my reading are 3.6 ohms and 647 ohms respectively........so the field coil seems to be pretty much right on but the voice coil is a bit low......As I am not well versed in such matters I am asking for opinions on this forum before I take the time and expense to re cone....thanks Yan, I would be interested to know what your speaker measures as I am thinking that sometimes the reported specs may not be accurate......
