I recently acquired a 640X that belonged to my dad. It had been stored in a damp storage shed which damaged the cabinet. I am not sure if the sides, top and front of the cabinet are black or ebony. Is the finish supposed to be a high gloss or satin? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Allen

Hi Allen

The entire 640X cabinet, save for the front panel, should be done in Extra Dark Walnut or Van Dyke Brown, heavily toned to the point the color is very dark - nearly black, but not black. The front panel should be Medium Walnut, toned just enough so that it has the walnut color but so the grain still shows through.

The original finish was high gloss lacquer.
