Push Button tuning
#1

Hi guys, love this forum.

I have a 40-195 that the push buttons decided to lock up on me (again) Every time - I take out the chassis, I fiddle with the mechanism a tad, get everything moving, and then put it back in. Inevitably, after some period of time in the cabinet, the buttons refuse to move with anything like reasonable force. Any tricks or hints I need to be aware of to remedy this? What do I need to do?

Hi Doktorg

Have you tried lubricating the pushbutton assembly? It might be considered heresy by some, but I suggest you remove the mechanism, spray the moving parts liberally with WD-40, push EVERY button several times until all buttons work smoothly, then reinstall.

I have yet to encounter a 1939-41 Philco that did not respond well to a good lubrication of its pushbutton assembly. It's worth a try if you have not done so already.
