OK, bring it over....
#1

I'm guessing many of you have found yourself in a similar situation...when friends find out you work on antique radios, they seem to find one of their own that needs fixing and "can you take a look at it?" Well, this guy said he had a Zenith, which is not my area of interest but I agreed to see what I could do. Lo and behold it wasn't a Zenith, but a Philco! So my enthusiasm for the project naturally grew by leaps and bounds. I just finished it tonight and am waiting for him to pick it up tomorrow. Before it goes....and before the withdrawal symptoms set in....I took a few pics. Here it is...a 41-265. A rather smallish console, but a strong performer. Biggest challenge...outside of crumbling wire... was restringing the dial cord that controls the band switch selector light. Getting that to line up just right was a bit of a chore. Luckily the off / on pushbutton still functions as it should. I know these are notoriously troublesome.

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

Maybe you could give him an old brand Z instead?   Icon_mrgreen

Er, well you see Greg, I live just around the corner in Boston, and I have this radio with an intermitent problem and well if I am in the neighborhood could I swing by with it!? Maybe you could take a look?

Ha, well if you're in the neighborhood you sure can stop by, Paul. If nothing else we'll have a beer and shoot the breeze! I should clarify that the work on this console wasn't a freebie....he wants to and expects to pay for the replacement parts and for my time. And after spending 11 hours total of my Friday and Saturday working on it, I think the outcome has to be worth something. Icon_smile
