Grain Sealer vs Wood Filler
#1

Locally I can only purchase Wood Filler, not Grain Sealer. Are these the same product under different names? Reading the directions on the Wood Filler it appears that you apply it with the grain, let it dry, and then sand off any excess. Thanks.

They are really two different things by definition although I know of at least one major vendor who labels their grain filler as 'wood filler'.

From your description it sounds like you may have the right stuff.

Tip, scrape off the excess with an old credit card after about 15 minutes. Let dry a bit more (15-30 minutes) and start rubbing down with burlap, heavy paper towel/paper shop towel, whatever. If done right you can pretty much avoid having to sand.

A few good sources for grain filler are http://www.woodcraft.com , and http://www.rockler.com
