37-690 alignment question

I was just looking over the alignment procedure in Riders aligning Philco radio's and see they do not follow Philco's procedure. Philco aligns the bands in 5 4 3 2 1 order and Riders in 1 3 4 2 5 order. Which method works best?

I know a few people have 37-690's or early 38-690's with all the trimmers so which procedure did you use?

I just looked it up in the Philco service bulletin and in my copy of Aligning Philco Receivers, Vol. 1.

Both sources show aligning the bands in 54321 order. That is what I would do, if I were you.

I think of the whole set as one giant tuned circuit. It is, for the most part. Mis aligning one band, can cause alignment troubles on another. Or when done out of order. I try and follow the manufactures alignment specs to the letter. Then, and only then will I start tweaking outside the box if needed.

Wow that is strange, the copy of Aligning Philco Recievers Vol 1 I have shows 1 3 4 2 5. The book was printed in 1947.

For my money, I'd trust good old "Mother Factory's" alignment instructions in the service bulletin.
