Need help with a radio?
#1

Hello! Sorry if this is random or strange.

I recently lost a family member, and was given the radio pictured below as a gift. Nobody knows anything about it, and we were all curious what year/model/etc. it was? I imagine it's atleast 15+ years old. It still lights up, too. I haven't had much luck finding answers on google, so I'm hoping someone here can give us a clue!

Thank you very much in advance <3

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

Yup, that's what it looks like! Thank you so much!

It's a bit older than 15 years old Icon_smile

If you intend to plug it n ever again, have a qualified person to servce it, don't power it up until you get it done.

That 1942 set may still light up but it will probably not play, or if its playing now it won't for long. The capacitors in sets this old go bad but can be replaced. Wiring in sets between 1939 and 1942 often suffers from crumbling insulation so the chance for short circuits could be high without a restoration. Without restoring it electronically you should just enjoy the look of the set with it unplugged.

Hi Ann and welcome,
The service info can be found here:  http://www.nostalgiaair.org/pagesbymodel...013523.pdf
You set covers the AM broadcast band, a short wave band, and what was known as the FM-50 band.
The FM-50 band is not the same as the FM band that is popular these days so it doesn't work so well
as modern FM receiver.

I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts

figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

That's a cool set, Anna! I hope you get someone to fix it up, they are lots of fun to listen to.

If you want to listen to more than just AM, some restorers can add in a bluetooth receiver, depending on a couple of things in your set. Just another option.

It looks well loved, but otherwise the cabinet is in really nice condition for the age.
