Question on Shielded Capacitor for Philco 38-3
#1

I'm ready to start refurbishing the RF unit of a Philco model 38-3.  I'm wondering about a .05 mfd capacitor (item 13 in the parts list) that is shielded (see photos below).  Do I need to ensure the replacement metal film tubular capacitor is also shielded?

Thanks,
Larry

Who knows. Maybe. But if you want to not worry about it, put the new cap inside of the old cap/tube and put it back where you got it.

I don't see any problem with putying the new cap in the shield. In the 38-690 there were several, some in very inconvenient places, still I got them out and in after restuffing.
There likely was a reason behind it, it is safer to follow the old design rather than troubleshoot things later.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

OK, thanks guys!  I will get the new one in there.
