Atwater Kent 246
#1

I am trying to rebuild an Atwater Kent 246 cabinet. I need a couple of dimensions if anyone could provide them.

Inside cabinet dimension from one cabinet wall to the opposite wall (not including molding or strengthen piece)
Inside cabinet dimension from base to top of cabinet at centerline. (not including molding)
Depth of cabinet from front to back edge of base.

If possible, a tracing of the cabinet curve. If you can provide this, let me know whether it was from the outside of the molding or the inside
(if you do the back) or if it is from the front panel.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I can get these for you, but I'm in the process of moving and my best measuring devices are at the other house.  I'll try to get this done sometime tomorrow, but there will be a problem scanning the drawing of the cabinet curve because neither of our two scanners have beds long enough to do the whole trace.  Maybe I can cut it in half and do two scans.  I haven't had the three radios side-by-side yet, but I suspect all three similar models, the 246, the 217, and the 708 all use the same basic cabinet dimensions, but I'll use my 246 for your measurements.

If you get these from another site or source first please let me know by posting here..... thanks...

That's great. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Whenever you can get to it is OK. I think the curve would  be fine if only half is scared. I have a 708, but I think that the cabinet is different. I had a 246 earlier that I sold and have some photos and have some templates from the 708 and they don't match, so the 246 measurements would be great.

It might be a day or two later than I thought, but I'll also compare it to my 708 and see if they are the same.

No problem. Thanks again

I quickly compared my 708 to the 246 and the 708 is taller, but the cabinet depth is the same on both.  When I find one of the thin plastic rulers I packed in a box "somewhere" I'll get you more precise measurements.

Ok Thanks.

OK, the inside depth of the 246 cabinet is 9 1/8 vs 9 1/4 on the 708 (for comparison purposes - odd since both cabinets have the same outside depth).

Inside cabinet width on the 246 is 14" vs 14 5/8 on the 708; there is about 1/2 the gap between the chassis sides and inside cabinet on the 246 vs the 708.

Inside bottom base to inside top support is 9 5/8.

Will work on getting pictures later.

John:
Aware of status, and understand pictures are too hard at this time. After some more research, I think the following measurements will give me what I need and should be pretty easy to take. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Height of cabinet front from top of base molding.
Width of cabinet front from edge to edge at top of base molding.
Width of cabinet at height of the Atwater Kent brass label across the brass dial escutcheon (edge to edge).
Height from top of base molding to the horizontal break in the trim veneer at the sides of the cabinet front.
Width of veneer trim pieces at sides of cabinet front from groove to edge of cabinet.
Length of the narrow trim piece in center of cabinet right above the Tone control switch.

Pictures sent, hopefully that will get you in the ballpark.

Great. I got them. I think I can get all the dimensions I need from these photos. Thanks a million.
