Philco 38-9 resistor in 2nd I.F. can??
#1

I was recapping my 38-9 tonight and as usual I check all my resistors.  One I could not find.  It is the (#20) 51K resistor coming off sec of the 2nd IF can to the input of the Volume pot.  I could not find it in the diagram or my radio chassis. I did resistance check between pin5 of 6J5 and the (#21) .01 cap at input of Vol and got 72K.  So I am guessing it is possibly inside the 2nd IF can and drifted high. I tried to remove the cover of the 2nd IF and it was NOT coming off the IF stack.  Before I start REALLY going at it I wanted to make sure that resistor IS inside that can and the cover should be removable.

Here is schematic file:///C:/Users/Todd/AppData/Local/Temp/M0013262.pdf

Did a 38-9 not to long ago, and I believe it's in the can. Just pop it off and look, I'd say.

In the parts list, it says #20 resistor is inside #19 IF transformer.

Interesting. The parts list says the value of resistor #20 is 51,000 mmf. Must be some sort of new terminology that Philco thought up   Icon_eek

Most Philco sets had that resistor in the last IF can, until they started using the smaller Automatic "K-Tran" transformers in the late 1940s.
