Yellow Fuzz on 38-C9
#1

http://pacifictv.ca/schematics/philco38-c7manual.pdf

I was cleaning the chassis on a Philco 38-C9. It was obviously in a home with heavy smokers, very heavy grime on everything. I then was cleaning the part in the photo that held the shadowmeter, scrapped off some of the yellow fuzzy stuff…stopped and realized it may supposed to be there. I already removed the fuzz from the other side of the part in the photo.

Did I mess something up, and if I did is there any way to rectify the situation? I’m new to this and have never seen anything like this fuzz before.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cadmium oxides.

Household vinegar, citric acid or sodium bisulfate solutions will easily remove. Cadmium oxides are toxic, make no dust, wash hands after treatment, let liquid wastes go down drain, dispose of any solid wastes in trash. That particular part may have From from a supplier that used a more heavily plated metal. Careful, slotted plastic cursor panel is made of celluloid. Keep heat and ANY petroleum solvent away...

In time, the cadmium flowers will reappear, seal with either white shellac or clear lacquer. Keep lacquer away from the celluloid.

Thanks Chas. I’m new to this and had no idea as to what it could be. I’ll carefully get rid of it.

Hello Hamilton,
I agree with chas Cadmium oxides.
I also have ran across sets with this issue too.
