What did I buy for $4
#1

Just bought a Philco portable at a garage sale for $4. Its model number is 40727 preceded by SP. It has a slide-rule dial and a suede imitation-leather case. It works fine and I'm pleased with it. I'd just like to know what is is and couldn't find that model number anywhere.

SP 40727 is the serial number, and serial numbers are useless for identifying Philcos. We would need the complete database of Philco serial numbers to be able to do anything with them; unfortunately, no one has this information that I am aware of.

Many thanks to you for sending me photos...the correct model number is E-678, a 1957 model.

I certainly think you did well for $4. Icon_smile
