Philco Radio Model 40-120 IF Transformer Part 32-2327
#1

I have a Philco 40-120 radio that is in need of an acceptable 1st IF Transformer Assembly, part 32-3237.  The radio has one installed already, but it is a different part number, 39-5955.

One of the wires is broken and I was able to fix that, but the bolt that holds the IF Transformer to the top of the can will not tighten.  it appears that the bolt and the nut are not the issue.  The issue is the hollow tube is barely attached to the ceramic square plate that houses the tuning screws.  This causes the transformer to rock back and forth in the can.

Does anyone now of an aftermarket replacement I could use or another acceptable replacement I could buy?  There are no specifications written on is or in the schematic.

See attached photos.

Would I be able to use something like this eBay listing?

Hi and welcome,

If the coils are intact then I would hot glue the form to the ceramic. Replace the hardware so that the ceramic portion can be secured back into the can. In the real world what you are looking for is a 455kc IF input transformer that's tuned w/trimmer not w/slugs as you may not have access to the bottom slug. Must be for a tube circuit as ss stuff the impedance's are way too low.

An IF output transformer is not a great idea as the 2ndy impedance is too low to be a good match for the grid of the IF amp grid circuit. On the other hand an interstage transformer would be ok.

I was able to finally tighten the coil to the ceramic.

In reading over my post I realized i got the part number wrong in the post. 32-3238, #15 is the part number on the part list.

32-3273 is the wax covered R.F transformer under the chassis.  It has damage as well, but to the windings.
