Philco 84 antenna connection
#1

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering what was the best way to connect an antenna for testing on my Philco 84. The field coil was bad and I found a replacement. I have never connnected these old sets up but see that there is an antenna and ground lug. I am not sure of the the wire type, loop arrangement, etc.

Regards,
Bob

I've used a single long wire up as high as possible and away obstacles. The gnd can be connected to a copper water pipe if your domicile doesn't use pvc pipe. Don't know that a loop would work very well w/this sell as it doesn't have a lot of gain.

From where I am I can pick stations up in CA and down in the Carolinas w/o a problem.

Very simply connect al long piece of wire to that contact for your antenna.   A piece 10 to plus 50 feet is no issue depending on the strength of the stations in your area.

Have a Philco 80 my long wire is app 30 feet, for a ground in my work shop have a ground rod that is used only for radios. If you installed a ground rod for your radios make sure it is 15 feet or more from the ground for the house electric. Enjoy your Philco 84. David
