37-11 questions.
#1

I have a 37-11 console I purchased recently. I recall a previous forum post concerning the fact that there are an early and late versions of this radio. Is there an easy way to tell them apart? There also seem to be two cabinet styles, flat fronted one (mine) and one with fluted sides. Thanks!

If you have the flat front then you have the earlier one, somewhat like a 610, 611 or 623 cabinet, the later one like mine is listed in Ron's book. I had some pictures of both but I would have to dig them up.

Thank you for the response. I will have to get a copy of Ron's book!

Here are two pictures, http://radioatticarchives.com/images/p/P..._Hauck.jpg and here is a different radio http://radioatticarchives.com/images/p/P...X_GCTR.jpg , both are the 2nd style but I do not think the 2nd picture has a proper restored finish. The first syle was along the lines of this radio, http://radioatticarchives.com/images/p/P...0_Park.jpg Wayne could you post or email me a picture of your radio?

I wish I had the means to post a picture. I don't have a camera or scanner with the ability to upload pics, nor my own computer at this point. (I'm behind the times!) There was one exactly like it on ebay about three weeks ago, I tried to find it tonight, but it appears to have vanished. I think it sold for $121 or so. That's close to what I paid for mine, Although mine is much nicer!

The seem to run between 50-150 depending on condition. I paid 50 for mine in good condition but the cabinet needs to be restored (lacquer) and the chassis will also need restoring. Very nice radio, well worth the money, nice looking dial and good performance.

I agree with you. I'm not disappointed with its performance. The 37-116 cabinet bears the closest resemblance to my set, minus the cut outs and one bar. The condition of the cabinet is what impressed me the most. It's hard to find consoles with excellent original finishes, high end or otherwise! I will have to say that my best find probably will not be topped -a $100 Scott Laureate in complete, minimal restoration necessary, condition w/Oxford Cabinet. Icon_biggrin I won the lottery that day!

I paid $78 for my 38-116, cabinet had been restored but chassis still need to be done and I need to finish the cabinet on my 38-2 and it will be totally done (ran out of warm weather to put the lacquer on), one can pick up some nice high tube count Philcos at good prices. I will have to take some pictures of my 37-11 and post them.
