Model 71
#1

Hi Guys,
Check this one out.
A friend of mine found this in a junk shop for $35 a few months ago. He capped it out, changed the speaker wire(s) and it came to life. He decided he did not want it so I purchased it for $35. Did I do ok? Is this a rare bird or is it pretty common? Right now it is painted brown so tomorrow I am going to strip and see what is underneath. Just goes to show a guy never knows where an old bone will surface.

Bob

Gosh, yes, that is a great deal.

Thanks!
It's my first cathedral so I know nothing about them as far as production numbers, and where they line up high end to low end. All I really know is I like the looks of the 80B the best.

Looks like he got the replacement grille cloth from the same place as Foggy. The model 71 is the 1932 equivalent of a Philco 70, except it uses 6.3 volt tubes I think, and the cabinet is different of course.

Hi Bob,
You did really good on the set.
Hopefully, the paint has protected the veneer underneath.
Worse case, it is heavily sanded in different directions Icon_eek

You can always re-veneer, that's a nice looking set.
