Mercury 94PM B9MF18805-B
#1

I recently obtained a philco car radio at a yard sale, it is identical to above mentioned model however it has some differences, the model number is actually CE94PM and has an original sticker stating made in Canada for the Ford motor co of Canada, also the dial window has "Ford approved" in place of the Mercury wording on 94pm version, does anyone know what model of car this was made for? also it has 2 power cables, 1 blue and 1 black, has this been modified or altered?. although it appears it is complete including chrome dash mounting panel, i have been reluctant to power it up until i am sure i know the power leads are correct, thanks for any help with this radio

Most of us here are collectors of Philco radios made before World War II, with some interest in models made from 1946 into the early to mid-1950s.

Information on Philco sets in general that were made in Canada is slim to nonexistent for those of us in the USA.

In this case, I would suggest asking your question in one of the vintage auto magazines such as Hemmings Motor News. They have their own online forum.

While we usually don't like to send folks away from the Phorum, in this case I think this is the only way you will find an answer to your questions, because no one here really knows anything about postwar car radios, especially those made in Canada.

Sorry...and good luck to you.

Google is your friend. Punching in the model number of the radio, I found these links.

http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/philco_merc...805_b.html

Sams Photofact (service info) on eBay.co.uk (seller is here in the USA):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1959-MERCURY-9...0160399106

Using Google, I found that this radio is from 1959. Newer than what most of the folks on this Phorum collect.

All of this doesn't really answer your question...but it would appear this radio was intended for a 1959 Mercury automobile.

Hi, just found this site last night and think it's great. Been working on old car radios, only, for over 50 years. The CE9PM decodes to, roughly, C= Canadian built, don't know about the E, 9= 1959, P in Canada usually means Philips, and M= Mercury and in Canada Meteor and Monarch. Hop this helps you out. BTW most of the Canadian Meteors had different dashes in them depending if they were a lo-line car, Ford Dash, or a hi-line car, Merc dash.

I voted yes. I'm not sure why.

On the two power leads, the black one is power to the radio and the blue one is power to the dial light.
