ANOTHER 9s262............
#1

Found this on CL last Saturday. E-mailed the seller asking for pics of the back. He responded with two pics and informed me he had found a tag on the back of the set with a price hid father had put on it $300.00

He had listed it at $150 which included an "owner's manual". He said he would honor the original listing price and so I set up an appointment to go see the set on Wednesday. Well in checking the listing on Monday, I found that it had been deleted! So in a panic I called and left a message confirming the Wednesday appointment. My call was returned shortly and he said he had pulled the listing because he was getting a ton of e-mails and was holding the set until I got there (that was a relief).

I would add here that he is a fine young man who is a 1st Lieutenant in the US army and hence a man of his word.

Made the 2 hr trip to Mass on Wed and upon seeing the set in person realized it wasn't quite as it looked in the pictures. My biggest concern was the telltale stains on the deck where the chassis is mounted.
I pulled the chassis and a whole huge clump of something hit the floor. But when I turned the chassis over there was almost no damage underneath. So I bought the set and headed home.

The "owners manual" is actually a Zenith service manual and parts list which covers from 1937 to 1935. The famous Stratosphere is in there but won't do me much good as I probably won't ever actually own one.

Anyway the case has cleaned up nicely and the original grille cloth is in nice shape. As you can see in the pics, the top needs some refinish work, but overall I am very happy with this set. Also will need some knobs as there is one missing and another one or two are incorrect. Here are the pics.

I'll trade you for this one:

It is obviously an antique(ed).
