40-190 bezel color question
#1

So I'm cleaning a lifetime of dirt off of the metal bezel with some green cleaner and while dirt is coming off, I'm left with areas that look like something ran down the bezel. So I try some alcohol and quickly realize that I'm removing the gold paint on the bezel. That's OK because I couldn't have put it on the radio looking like it did. So has anyone spray painted one of these bezels? I would describe it as a mat light gold color. Just go to Lowes and see what I can find?

I found a thread answering this question.

Although the paint recommended in that thread, Valspar Plasticote, was not available locally. So I picked up Valspar Brilliant Gold 66009 at Lowes. First coat was too thick and I got some noticeable orange peel. Quickly removed that with some alcohol and did 2 thin coats. I'm 100% satisfied.

Hum. Mine isn't gold it is a nickle (plated?) color. I have had that radio for 30 years, so it is hard to remember, but I think it has always been that color.

Yes, it may be that color. Not plated, though, because alcohol takes it off easily. Like this?:

This one may be repainted; it's very close to mine now:

When I stripped all the sexy gloss black off my escutcheon, I found traces of the original color underneath. I'd say yours is definitely in the right area. And funny you should mention, I think I bought the last can of the closest-thing-to on the west coast... I haven't seen it anywhere since.
