What should I do with this?
#31

In the old days some of us got a can of LYE, mixed it up in a tub of cold water outside, added a half cup of cornstarch, and created a wonderful goo that could remove everything. Not so hot on veneers but worked did sometimes if'n you hosed it off in time before it got to the base. Some of us followed up with vinegar to square things up, but I used to just leave the specimen in the sun for a day or two. The repairs would follow. I know, old school.

In my past experience, a good sanding is necessary to get an even color when refinishing.
Kind of opens the pores of the wood.
Just be careful and don't work one area too much.
Start with about 150 grit.
Good luck.

I have not posted in quite awhile. Just thought I would post a couple pics of this cabinet I started on last year. Had to wait til spring to finish. Don't be too critical its my 2nd radio refinish. The first was an 610 tombstone.]http://i1336.photobucket.com/albums/o654/220kohms/100_2611_zpsa4f6795b.jpg[/IMG]

That looks amazing!

Thank you. I got my confidence to try this because of puh-pows thread last year. When he showed how he refinished a cabinet. Not saying my work quality is as good as his. But I did learn quite a few pointers and will try to do better with each cabinet I try. Mike

Outstanding work! Glad my threads helped! With results like that, you could probably give me a couple of pointers. Icon_smile

Thanks for the compliments from all. PhilcoMike, the radio chassis its self is a mod 144. there is a sticker seperate from the mod.# sticker that says chassis type H. So I'm not really sure if the 118H and the 144 used the same cabinet.
" PuhPow" I still look back on your work when I'm not sure of the next step. I have learned alot also from other members on this site.Just too many names to remember.
I hope other beginners might see that if I can learn this, they can to.
