Philco 50-1430
#1

Hey all, I just picked up this gem at the local antique mall, and I probably overpaid a bit but the philco TVs around here are very rare. I gave it a once over and plugged it up, I have sound but no pic. I checked 98% of the tubes and they all checked good with my sencore handyman. I did notice the the CRT lead was off so I reconnected it with the same results. Any ideas of where to go from here? The CRT neck is lit up in the rear also

I was looking for the Sams photofact for your set and the only model number they list is a 50T1430. Does that make sense? If so I can look and see if I have the photofact (114-9) for it.

Ok, I will see if I happen to have that Sams. If so Ill scan it for you. Stay tuned 8)

Has it been recapped ? If not, that's where I'd start. These early 50s Philcos are usually full of "bumble bee" caps that pop like firecrackers.
#6

Not that I can see. I'm just hoping the CRT isn't bad

Sorry no luck on the Sams. I gave 4 large file cabinets of them I got off a fellow restorer a few years ago. The collection isnt complete though.

Sams is still around you can order a photofact from them for $15.00.
here is a link. https://www.samswebsite.com/en/photofact...mit=Search

Ok so I poked around a bit and it's a 50t 1403 code 125. I purchased a SAMS that covers a 1402 codes 121 & 123 not sure if it's somewhat the same

You can also download the Sams for free from the ETF: http://www.earlytelevision.org/tv_schema...stwar.html

They show the 1402 as Sams 114-9 and the 1403 as Sams 115-8.

Thanks bob I'll take a look. I got an original copy off fleabay but I'll download one too. It probably needs recapped. The tube has filament but won't light

The two different runs indicate power supply differences. You need to verify which run the set is. As for the CRT, if you have a tester and the tube shows low emission, let it cook at 8 to 10 volts for a while. Then again, you may not have high voltage. Either of these can cause a dark screen. Recap and then go from there.

Well I checked emission and it was good. Around 800. Did a life check , not so good, I'm guessing its tube hunting time. According to my SAMs it's a 12Lp4

I don't put much stock in the life test. Recap the set. There is a good chance the tube will get better as it cooks. You could also use a 12KP4.
